“Don’t forget to bring home honey” is one of my to-do list items each year. Life here is nuts.
I am so busy every day with work that I sometimes forget that there is this lovely life outside where the family gathers and breaks bread together and talks and laughs and prays and celebrates.
Every year, we host Rosh Hashanah dinner for the family. Because of my work schedule, I have to be on my “A” game with my plan, so I am sharing this plan with you.
Following is my Rosh Hashanah Dinner Plan. Please note: when I use recipes from others, I always modify as necessary to observe dietary law. I omit anything with milk. (It’s convenient, because I omit most things with milk from our diet anyway).
Bring home honey from the shop
Order floral centerpiece a week ahead
Pick up Turkey and rib roast
Pluck bird and clean well
Make sure rib roast is cradled
Round Challah with raisins
Plain Round Challah
Fresh Squeezed OJ
Almond and coconut milk
Organic canola oil
6 Green and 6 Fuji apples
Onions (red and sweet)
Parsley and sage
Kosher chicken broth
Potatoes (regular and sweet)
Kasha (buckwheat groats)
Get the table ready, take out:
Table cloth and napkins
Crystal glasses for wine and water
Serving platters for meat, veggies, apples and honey
At noon to pull out meat and turkey, get to room temp
Stuff and prep turkey
Prep salads and veggies mid-day
Cut and prep brussel sprouts
Steam broccoli 8 minutes before serving
Turkey goes in by 2pm
Meat goes in by 2pm
Brussel Sprouts go in at 4pm for 45 minutes

Here’s some of my favorite recipes for our Rosh Hashanah dinner. We have a big family, so there is always so much food to make. But, the more, the merrier!

Not normally a fan of brussel sprouts? You will be once you try these! Top with vegan shredded cheese for a Kosher-friendly addition to your meal.
Our Tomato Salad is bright and colorful, and is a perfect way to use up late-summer tomatoes. Mix in other fresh veggies, like onion and herbs, for a special twist on this simple side.
