This Green Smoothie Recipe is in honor of Saint Patrick’s Day. A holiday where festivities bring some life back to the dreary late winter/early spring months. Parades, good food, and drinks with friends go hand in hand with the holiday. But, all of that celebrating can be a little overindulgent sometimes! That’s why it’s important to balance out your diet with whole, healthy foods.

To help you in this sometimes arduous task, we’ve come up with an easy green smoothie that’s just as festive as the beers and pretzels you might be putting away.

Green smoothies are packed with a lot of vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants that you are missing

The great thing about smoothies is that they make it really easy to get in a few servings of fruits and vegetables at once! And, when you use Eastern Shore Honey, you get a little extra sweetness to brighten the whole thing up. Try our newest Avocado Honey however, using Sweet Clover or Spring honey would also make it festive.

Want a thicker smoothie? Reduce the liquid or add more avocado. Avocado really makes this smoothie creamy (without dairy), and you’ll be surprised how well it blends into the smoothie. You may be skeptical, since avocados are normally savory, but try it, you’ll like it!

Jazzing Up Your Lucky Green Smoothie

We always encourage you to play with our recipes and make them your own. Don’t like spinach? Swap it out for kale or swiss chard or a green that you love! Add in a banana instead of the apple, or toss in other goodies. Chia seeds make an excellent addition to this smoothie! Here’s more ideas:

  • Use all kale or all spinach
  • Add coconut milk instead of almond milk
  • Drop in a spoonful of almond butter
  • Try a pinch of hemp hearts or cocoa nibs as garnish

Luck of the Irish Green Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 organic green apple cored and sliced
  • 1/2 organic avocado
  • 1/2 tsp. organic ginger
  • 1 tsp. extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil
  • 1 tsp. spirulina
  • 1 tbsp. Waxing Kara Honey
  • 1/4 c kale leaves
  • 1/4 c organic spinach leaves
  • 1 c organic almond milk
  • 1/2 lemon freshly-squeezed juice

Instructions

  • Blend all ingredients together in a high-speed blender.
  • Add some more almond milk if it is a bit too thick.
  • Taste for sweetness, if needed, add some more raw honey, garnish with bee pollen.
  • Enjoy this deliciousness a little later in the morning, when the sun is high.
