This Dairy-Free Hot Cocoa is a healthier treat than the dairy variety. Cocoa is a superfood that was once considered by some self-appointed health experts to be bad for your health. While the average chocolate bar probably doesn’t contain any real cocoa, those that do, with little sugar and low-fat content can be considered good for you. It has been proven over time that cocoa is good for health.
How to Make Dairy-Free Haute Cocoa
- Mix cocoa, honey, salt, and about 2 tablespoons almond milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until cocoa and honey are well blended.
- Whisk in the rest of the milk and heat it over medium heat, whisking occasionally, until hot. Don’t overheat.

Make this cocoa recipe your own
We always encourage you to play with our recipes and make them your own. This recipe was created by me and I give you permission to do what you wish with it. You may experiment with your nut milk or cut back on an ingredient or two. It’s all good. Here are some suggestions:
- Add a sprinkle of lemon or orange zest as a garnish.
- Make your own almond milk.
- Top with lavender marshmallows.
I garnish my dairy-free hot chocolate with a sprinkle of cocoa and cinnamon on top. A touch of honey sweetens the almond milk and cocoa for a perfect early morning or after-dinner treat. Try this recipe with our California Almond and Cherry Blossom Honey.
