Honey Moscow Mule

The Honey Moscow Mule is a wonderful spring and summertime cocktail that is made of just a few ingredients: vodka, lime juice, and spicy ginger beer.

Do you know what Ginger Beer is?

Ginger beer is non-alcoholic and it is definitely not the same as ginger ale. I have to admit that is what I assumed. Ginger beer is brewed and fermented, think of it as a spicy gingery soft-drink that is not of boozy nature.

Our Waxing Kara Honey offers some amazing flavor and a bit of sweetness, which adds depth to this fun cocktail. We used our Spring Honey which has a sweet, sunny, floral flavour profile. We encourage you to experiment with different varietal honey (like blueberry, blackberry, wildflower, or whatever your heart desires).

Garnish your mule with a wedge of lime and sprigs of fresh lavender and mint. If you feel like adding to the flavor, muddle the mint leaves and lavender flower buds into the cocktail for truly refreshing cocktail.

On the wagon? You can easily remove vodka from this mixer to make a perfectly satisfying non-alcoholic drink. This is suitable for anyone at any age as a signature refreshment at your next summertime party.

Why do we use a copper mug?

The Moscow Mule was born in 1941, and its origins are somewhat murky. According to an article from 2007, in the Wall Street Journal by Eric Felton, (shared by our friends at liquor.com) the Cock ‘n’ Bull’s head bartender Wes Price laid claim to the recipe.

Apparently, at a later time, a bartender in LA ordered far too much ginger beer for his bar and had difficulty selling it. This same bartender’s girlfriend owned a company that made copper products, so the copper Moscow Mule mugs were relatively easy to come by for him.

If you don’t have a copper mug, any beautiful highball glass you have will suffice. We happened to have two different styles of copper mugs for our shoot. Don’t they look like a perfect hot summer day drink?

It wouldn’t be a Waxing Kara recipe if we didn’t challenge those ingredients a bit, so in our take, you guessed it, we’ve added honey and made it a little more interesting.
