Even when you make your resolutions for the New Year, you’re sure to want something sweet. We cut back out the unhealthy elements of many desserts (artificial flavorings, empty calories, preservatives, and colorants) to give you treats that you won’t feel quite as guilty about snacking on. These light, low-calorie desserts definitely don’t skimp out on flavor, though! Packed with yummy things like cocoa, fruits and veggies, nuts, coconut, and Eastern Shore Honey, you’ll enjoy these healthy dessert recipes all year long.
Some things to keep in mind when “healthing” it up:
- Try reducing dairy in your desserts (you won’t believe how this improves your complexion!)
- Taking out all fats is not a good idea-your body needs them! Instead, cut out animal-based fats, trans and saturated fats.
- Add lots of fruits to your dessert menu (caramelized pears, anyone?)
- When shopping, avoid sweets high in sugar, fillers, preservatives, and artificial flavors.

For breakfast, try a piece of this Healthy Coffee Cake. We developed this recipe over the summer, and after a few trial-and-error attempts, we came up with something wonderful and delicious. Our recipe calls for a candied nut topping; feel free to leave it out or replace it with a little melted dark chocolate drizzled over the top.
