Beer bread made with honey great for use in fall recipes

Have you ever made Beer Bread? It’s really simple! There’s no need to add yeast, let the dough rise, or fuss over the temperature of your kitchen. Just mix everything together, and pull a hearty, crusty loaf of bread from your oven any time you want to feel like a world-class baker.

For this recipe, we like to use dark honey, like Buckwheat. Darker honey has a stronger flavor that holds up better in the heat of the oven, and compliments bitter foods and drinks like beer. For an extra treat, make the almond butter that we share in our Eastern Shore Cornbread recipe to serve on top.

No Fuss, Quick, Beer Bread

I remember my grandmother baking bread when I was a toddler-it always seemed like such a process. She’d be in the kitchen for hours, mixing things together and covering bowls of dough with old cloth to let it rest. When I got a little older, I started making my own bread on occasion. I only tried yeast breads a few times since they can be a royal pain. I found recipes for quick breads (which don’t need yeast and rise thanks to the baking soda and powder in the flour), and it was so much easier to bake!

This specific recipe also reminds me of the bread my aunt would bake for Thanksgiving – hers was a sweet beer bread. It was soft and chewy but crusty.

Beer bread made with honey

Hearty and perfect for dipping in soups or making into a sandwich. It’s slightly sweet, thanks to the beer and honey in the batter, and lends itself well to everything. Since we use a fair amount of butter in the recipe, it bakes up with beautiful air pockets, and the top gets nice and golden.

Make this beer bread in honor of National Beer Day, or St. Patrick’s Day! Regardless, It’s a perfect way to celebrate! Use whatever beer you like: it might be fun to switch it up every time you bake a loaf of this bread.

Adapting our Honey Beer Bread Recipe

We always encourage you to play with your food, for this reason, try tossing in or topping with different ingredients. The sky is the limit. Trust us, no matter what you decide a loaf of this won’t stick around long! Here are some ideas:
